Estate piece signed by the highly collectible Native American, Zuni master silversmith Wayne Calavaza:
Often copied but never matched! Wayne Calavaza remains the master of his distinctive cuff bracelet design.
The cuff bracelet presented here today is hand wrought heavy gauge sterling silver and set with 10 vibrant blue turquoise nuggets. Wayne Calavaza is known for his "cold" chisel work and distinctive "wave" stamp designs. His cuff bracelets are recognizable because he always included a Zuni sunray design, "cold" chiseled, on each side of the opening. The ends of his cuffs are tapered as well. The use of high-end turquoise was another signature that distinguished his pieces. His maker's hallmark is Wayne C.
This cuff bracelet measures 7 1/2 to 8 inches in size. The top of the cuff measures 1 1/2 inches in width and tapers to 1 inch at the opening for the bracelet. There are 10 vibrant blue Turquoise nuggets with matrix, bezel set with hand made "scallop" designs, set across the top of the cuff. 16 sterling silver "hot drop" raindrop beads are spaced between the bezel set turquoise nuggets. The bracelet weighs 3.5 oz (98 grams) and has an exquisite natural patina that can only be developed over time.
This bracelet was well-loved and cared for by the same owner since 1970. It shows no damage to the silver or the large turquoise nuggets. It is in very good condition.
The master silversmith Wayne Calavaza is an "important" Zuni Native American artist known for excellent workmanship, use of heavy gauge sterling silver, and high-quality turquoise stones. His work is in Native American Arts collections all over the world and his pieces are highly desirable.
