Estate jewelry: signed Johnny Johnson
Presented here are a pair of sterling silver and Turquoise earrings, hand made and signed by Johnny Johnson for the Maisel's Indian Trading Post in Albuquerque NM. The store opened in 1923 and closed in 2019. In the early years of the store Native American silversmiths, from various tribes, were hired to make the jewelry items sold. Johnny Johnson worked at Maisel's from the time it opened until the American involvement in WWII.

The earrings offered here are precious metal hallmarked for sterling silver with the style mark RM3 and the
makers hallmark JJ for Johnny Johnson, Navajo, who was an active jeweler from 1920-1950.

Each earring measures 1 inch in diameter and has a 3 mm round Turquoise cabochon saw tooth bezel set at the center of the sterling silver disc. The silver discs are each hand-stamped in a star motif. One earring has a 7 point star and one earring has an 8 point star. The stamp work was hand done and the style design followed as close as possible. Unlike machine-made items, there is room for "artistic" variation when pieces are made by hand.

The earrings are in good condition for their age. The sterling silver disc in each earring is in good condition without scratches or bends. The cabochon stone is genuine Turquoise. These earrings are post design made to be worn in pierced ears. They are genuine Native American, Navajo signed items, and from the legendary Maisel's Trading Post that was located on Route 66 in Albuquerque New Mexico. Southwest American history at is best!
