Presented here is a stunning vintage sterling silver and American Turquoise pendant, signed by the Navajo artist Lela Platero. The pendant was made while the artist worked under the "Platero" silversmith guild hallmark during the middle of the last century. The gild jewelers used their first name with the Navajo word for the silversmith, "Platero" as their makers mark. The pendant presented here is precious metal hallmarked "sterling" as well. It measures 2 1/2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. There are two 13.5 mm X 9 mm teardrop-shaped American Turquoise cabochons, "sawtooth" bezel set in the traditional way. The intricate design of the pendant is of leaves and cacti flowers. The pendant is hanging from its own bail on a 24 inch American Turquoise nugget and sterling silver Navajo "bench bead" necklace. There are two sterling silver cones with "Rain" motif stamp work, on each end of the necklace with a sterling silver lobster claw clasp to complete the piece.

The Turquoise used to make this beautiful necklace and pendant is bright blue with Silver Pyrite Matrix. It has been stabilized to ensure many more years of natural beauty. Spaced among the turquoise nuggets are eight Navajo "bench" beads, handcrafted and semi-round with fluting. The nugget bead necklace has been cleaned and restrung on jewelers wire. The lobster claw clasp is new and not original to the piece. The pendant and necklace are in good condition with a few signs of wear on the back of the pendant, possibly due to layering several Turquoise necklaces in the South West style.

This is a South West style piece of jewelry that is elegant and flattering to all ages and skin tones. It is the kind of necklace you reach for when you need "that special something" to bring it all together. The necklace will be sent to you in a gift box for giving or keeping.
