Lustrous ivory white cultured Akoya salt water pearls from Japan are knotted together on silk cord with a hand carved "Sleeping Beauty" turquoise center piece to make this 15 inch choker necklace.
The pearls are Akoya Flame Ball "small tail" gems cultured in the salt waters surrounding Japan. They are a natural ivory white color with excellent luster and shinny orient. Each pearl measures between 6.5 mm to 7 mm and the strand is well matched for color and size.
A hand carved "barrel" shaped piece of Turquoise, from the "Sleeping Beauty" mine in Globe Arizona, USA, is at the center of this one of a kind necklace. The "Sleeping Beauty" mine has been closed since 2012 making the vivid blue green turquoise it produced until that time rare and sought after. The carved gem in this necklace encompasses the blue green color and chocolate brown matrix that makes it a collectors piece. The "barrel" measures 21 mm from end to end and 11.5 mm at its roundest point. There are circle step carvings at each end of the carving.
A sterling silver oblong cushion clasp with a tab closure is used to secure the necklace. The clasp measures 23.8 X 8 mm and is hand made. The necklace with the clasp measures 15 inches long and weighs 26 grams.
A contemporary classic from "out west!"
