12 Coalport Cobalt Blue Soup Plates with Intricate Gilding, World's Fair 1893
These 12 ornate soup plates are from the esteemed firm of Coalport, Shopshire, England. The soup plates feature wonderfully intricate raised-paste 22-karat gold work of alternating ornaments of 2 different designs, one of a grand vase spewing meandering rose-gold accented leaves; the other ornament depicts scrolling foliate that terminates in 4 stylized flowers. The gold rim is gadrooned. The craftsmanship of these bowls was of such high caliber that they were displayed at the famous Worlds Fair held in Chicago, called the Chicago Exhibition of 1893.
The soup plates display a stamp for the Chicago Exhibition of 1893 on the back
