This is an 1840 china doll head with hair swept back into a bun. This head most likely began life on top of a cork. Notice her neckline with collar. Someone created the perfect wooden torso for her many years ago as you can see by the patina of the wood. Her limbs were added much later, but whoever carved these limbs chose to use wooden pegs to join them. She can pose in many positions, but she does not sit.
She is dressed in period clothing. Her chemise needs to be reattached at the shoulders. Her coat is wool and her skirt is an early calico. She has a very pleasant and well painted face. She stands 8 1/2 inches tall. She is a delightful and unusual example of this early doll head and hairdo. Please feel free to ask questions or request more photos.
