I have had this little guy for many years and have always been fascinated by him. He stands about 4 1/4 inches tall. He is painted and at this stage the paint is a silvery grey. I love the way the head and torso have been so beautifully carved from one piece of wood. The dowel between the arms is made of wood but between the legs it is made of metal. He has only one arm and it is missing a hand. Personally, I have never focused on what was missing because what is there is so lovely. I think by looking at the shape of his feet that he could date to as early as 1870, possibly earlier by the looks of the hardware. He is just a fabulous piece of doll folk art. Please feel free to ask questions or request more photos and do take a look at my other early doll listings. Thank you for shopping Red Dog Dolls.
