Sometimes when I get one of these early dolls it almost needs to be pried out of my hand. This little doll is one of them. She is 4 1/2 inches tall, clearly handmade and still retaining some of her original robin's egg blue paint. In my hand it feels absolutely perfect. It has been worn smooth with time and just feels great. Notice that there is a bit of a lighter color paint to account for a face and the back of the head has lines carved in to account for hair. What I love is that along the bottom of the doll can bee seen a stroke of lighter blue paint that goes around the doll with a line of the original darker blue through it. Someone thought to "trim out" this plain doll's dress just to give it a bit of fashion and style. Bless its long ago maker for such a sweet detail. There are holes on either side that were clearly meant for arms, but alas, her arms are long gone. I am dating her to the mid 1800s possibly into the 1860s. Don't miss out on this if you love the charm of early dolls. Please feel free to ask questions or request more photos. Do take a peek at my other early doll items and thank you for shopping Red Dog Dolls.
