The Greek designer, Minas Spiridis (1938), trained as a goldsmith from the age of 15. In 1969 he moved to New York and established himself as jewelry designer. His jewelry was sold both in USA and Europe. In 1980 he returned to Greece and opened a workshop in Athens .
In the 70's and 80's Minas Spiridis’s works in silver and gold was sculptural and volomunious in elegant, modern forms, but his recent pieces has begun taking other more contant forms. His artistic creations are comparable to small imaginative sculptures - sensuous, magic objects. He creates dynamic yet controlled shapes and adds an organic imaginative tone to the object's functional essence. The works of Minas Spiridis point towards the archetypes of the objects in question and are in this way evocations of timelessness.
Minas Spiridis was the first non-scandinavian to design for Georg Jensen. In 1992 their cooperation began with Minas Spiridis’s own products, which had been on display in a large and varied exhibitions at Zoumboulaki Gallery. Since then he created jewelry, hollowware, and a watch design for Georg Jensen Silversmithy in Copenhagen. He currently works out of his own gallery on the Greek island of Mykonos.
