For collectors of Art Deco jewelry, this is a fabulous piece - a rare and unusual chain and pendant, featuring lapis lazuli, diamond, pearl, and 18kt white gold. The design is pure Art Deco -- rectangular, geometric lines, a mixture of precious and semi-precious stones, white metal, and above all, a stunning , abstract design that features a silvery-white pearl at the bottom of the pendant, resting on a semi-circle of diamonds. The lapis lazuli is actually in two sections, one on each side. The white gold mounting is all one piece, but is pierced along almost the entire length of the pendant. Adding to the gorgeous design is the superior craftsmanship of the pendant -- a look at the back shows how superbly it is made in every aspect. The chain is an integral part of this piece of jewelry. The bail does not open, and the chain does not slip through the bail. It was designed and made as a single necklace. I am confident that this striking pendant was made in Sweden in the 1920s. On the back of the pendant, it is marked "760," indicating above 18kt white gold. The typical mark is "750." To my knowledge, Sweden is the only country to have required 18kt gold to be above 18kt, and this is the intention of the "760" stamp. The color and the design is also evocative of Swedish Art Deco. In all, a quite remarkable pendant, and a fabulous addition to any collection of Art Deco jewelry.
Total weight of this rare Art Deco pendant is 15.6 grams, including the chain. It is comprised of two sections of fine quality, polished, lapis lazuli, set in an 18kt white gold mounting. The mounting is stamped "760," indicating above 18kt gold, and is acid-tested as such. The chain is a fine, rope-twist design, and measures 16-1/2" in length. It is also tested as 18kt gold, and is stamped "18c." The pendant, which measures 1-9/16" x 3/4" exclusive of the bail, is set with 12, single cut diamonds, of excellent color and clarity, and weighing an estimated 0.12ct total. Centered in the lower half of the pendant is a pearl, probably cultured but possibly natural, measuring over 6.5mm. (Measurement and grading estimated, as permitted by mounting). The fastening is a box clasp with safety catch. The pendant and chain are in excellent vintage condition.
This unique and important pendant will arrive in a fine quality presentation box.
