A rare and beautiful Art Nouveau lavaliere-style necklace, created in Prague circa 1905, during the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in its original fitted case. This wonderful necklace, crafted in platinum-topped, 14kt gold, with platinum chain, features a double-looped, diamond ribbon, suspending on the longer side a certified natural white saltwater pearl 6.5mm in width, and on the shorter side an Old European cut diamond approximately 0.55ct in weight. Each side of the ribbon is composed of teardrop, millegrain-edged settings, set with individual single cut diamonds, and the top of the ribbon is set with six additional single cut diamonds. This unique necklace, displaying the classic, soft flowing lines of the Art Nouveau period, is in its original fitted case, imprinted inside with the name of the Prague jeweler who created it. An absolutely beautiful and significant piece of jewelry, well over 100 years old, that is as wearable and elegant today as when it was first worn, before World War 1.
Natural pearls are a true rarity today. With few exceptions, natural saltwater pearls have not been harvested for over one hundred years. It is estimated that only one mollusk in 10,000 ever contained a natural pearl. Today, natural pearls are highly sought after by discerning collectors, and fetch extremely high prices. To be sure you are buying a natural pearl, as opposed to a cultured pearl, you MUST receive an identification report from a major gemological laboratory. Only a major gem lab has the equipment necessary to certify a pearl as natural. This pearl is accompanied by EGL report # 3123854.
Total weight of the necklace is 6.6 grams. The setting is crafted of platinum-topped, 14kt gold, unmarked but acid-tested. The chain is platinum (acid-tested) and including the width of the ribbon is 17-1/4" in length. The natural pearl is button-shaped, approximately 6.5 x 5.4 mm. The Old European cut diamond, approximately 0.55ct, has color and clarity estimated at K/VS2. The 15 smaller diamonds, all single-cut, combine for a total of approximately 0.35cttw. (Weights and measurements estimated by formula, as permitted by setting). The "ribbon" measures 3/4" across, and the drop is 1-5/8" in length from the top of the ribbon to the bottom of the pearl. There is very minor darkening of the platinum on a very small section of the ribbon in a hard to reach area. It is quite insignificant and not detracting at all. The necklace is in overall excellent condition.
As noted, it will arrive in its original, fitted case, with the name of the jeweler and "Prague" imprinted in gold lettering on blue satin.
