A dramatic, eye-catching necklace crafted in one of my favorite opaque, hard gemstones, the gorgeous malachite, famous for its swirls, bands, and circles of light green on a dark green background. This necklace, although unsigned, comes from the private collection of famed jewelry designer Andrew Clunn, and features 38 well-matched and finely-polished malachite beads, each approximately 12.2mm, suspending a polished, free-form malachite pendant, into which is set a hand-carved, lighter green chrysoprase flower, centered by a button-shaped, cultured pearl. The transition from the darker green of the pendant's malachite to the lighter green of the petals, to the silvery-white of the pearl is delightful. A totally unique and beautiful necklace-pendant.
PROVENANCE: From the private collection of famed jewelry designer Andrew Clunn. Andrew Clunn began his career working for David Webb, with whom he was associated for many years. Clunn began his own jewelry design firm in New York around 1980, and made an immediate impact that has only grown over the years.
Total weight of this finely-crafted necklace is a weighty 265 grams (over 9 ounces). The length is about 22-1/2", and the clasp is a 14kt gold, "hook and eye" clasp. The pendant measures 2-3/4" tall by 2-1/4" wide. (Measurements estimated as permitted by mounting). The center "petals" are of carved chrysoprase, centered by a 6.0mm cultured pearl. It is in excellent vintage condition.
This spectacular necklace will arrive in an elegant, gold-paper covered gift box.
