Increasingly sought-after, jewelry by Andrew Clunn is finding its way to auctions like Sothebys and Christies, and top New York galleries. This gorgeous, 1980s wide gold band, set with a 10.30ct, purplish, raspberry-red rubellite (tourmaline) shows why. A dramatic, showstopper of a ring - substantial, sophisticated, superbly-crafted, it is an iconic example of the finest Andrew Clunn jewelry. In keeping with the 80's spirit, Clunn was not afraid to make large, chunky rings for women. The beautiful, emerald-cut rubellite is showcased by the highly--polished, wide, 18kt gold band, which is brought to life by free-form, inset, textured panels all round. A truly collectible piece of 1980s fine jewelry, and while it was certainly designed as a ladies' ring, today it could easily work as a wonderful unisex piece of jewelry.

Andrew Clunn began his career working for David Webb, with whom he was associated for many years. The big, bold, dramatic look of David Webb jewelry is visible in Andrew Clunn's jewelry also. After working with high profile clients such as Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Onassis, Clunn began his own jewelry design firm in New York around 1980, and made an immediate impact that has only grown over the years.

Total weight of this iconic 1980s ring is an astounding 25.7 grams. It is more than 3/4 ounce of 18kt gold. Stamped inside the band is the signature "A. Clunn" and "18K". It is important to note the width of the ring -- at its widest point, it is almost 3/4", tapering to about 1/2" wide at the bottom of the band. The setting measures about 5/8" x 1/2". (Weights and measurements are estimated, as permitted by mounting). The ring is set with a step-cut, or emerald-cut, red tourmaline, also known as rubellite. There are minor, natural inclusions in the gemstone, which is typical of rubellite. The ring is in excellent condition. The finger size is approximately 5-3/4 to 6. Given the construction of this ring, it is not possible to resize it.

This magnificent ring will arrive in a fine quality presentation box.
