Offered for consideration is an original wool black tuxedo ensemble from the very early 1900s Victorian-Edwardian time period with long tails jacket, button vest and button-fly pants with black silk grosgrain ribbon side stripe as originally-sold under the Hart Schaffner & Marx design label. Hart Schaffner Marx was a premier suit tailor in Chicago having opened the business in 1887. The business was known for good quality tailored suits and tuxedos and eventually was carried in the fine Nordstrom department stores. This tux dates to 1910-1915 with each individual item in good condition for the age, but there are a few damages to mention: raggedness and hole damage to the left side arm and body of the jacket and a few tiny holes to the pants. Even though it had been stored within the estate since the early 1900s, the wool fabric seems to still be in good condition, but you are cleaning it at your own risk. The jacket is fully-lined in black silk and the vest is fully-lined in a light tan-colored, striped, silky fabric. Approximate measurements for the jacket are: chest 40", shoulder-to-shoulder 17", outer sleeve length 25", pants waist 30" and inseam 30". There are no smoke, pet, mildew or mothball odors. It is quite striking on display as well.
