Offered for consideration is a piece that I believe is a very large flax or rippling comb (hatchel) for use in creating linen fabric. The actual combing tool is mounted to a board that is mounted to another thick board with drilled holes at either end for securing to a stable or non-moving base. The actual comb is hand-hammered iron with large, square-shaped and blunt nails that are slightly tapered inward. This comb measures 26" in length with a 7" width. The large nails each measure approximately 1-5/8" in length with a 1/2" width. The bottom-most board has old blue paint finish. This piece weighs approximately 24 lbs on its own and measures approximately 31-1/2" x 7-1/2" overall.
