RARE MT WASHINGTON ROYAL FLEMISH DECORATED ROSE BOWL
This is a really rare piece of Mt Washington Royal Flemish. Rarely are decorated Rose Bowls found in Mt Washington Royal Flemish, they're typically found in their Crown Milano line, sometimes Burmese and sometimes Peach Blow, but rarely Royal Flemish. Making this even more rare and desirable is the decor is a rare one that I've personally yet to see.
This decor of Wild Roses, or Hawthorne decor decorated over striated blue panels is a striking design. The top of the bowl isn't the typical crimped rim you typically see on their Crown Milano Rose Bowls, it's a cut, pulled and crimped top that you rarely see on Mt Washington Rose Bowls. The top is further enhanced with gold gilt. The base features a polished pontil that's correctly enameled "617." as is correct on the larger sized Mt Washington Rose Bowls.
In the Betty Sisk "Mt Washington Art Glass ID" book on page 192 and 193, she shows two Royal Flemish Rose Bowls, one with the standard crimped top and the second with the cut, pulled and crimped top. Personally I believe this Rose Bowl to be a far nicer example, but all the same they are all quite rare examples from the Premiere Victorian era American Art Glass maker.
The rose bowl measures ~ 5-1/2" tall, polished pontil, glass and decor is in excellent condition.
