Finding Paul Nicolas designed and executed cameo glass is not easy, and finding one as exceedingly stunning and as well executed as this fine example, is about as challenging as they come.
Paul Nicolas was the Chief Designer at Galle and later went on to make glass under his own name and for St Louis under the name D'Argental.
This stunningly executed blown cameo art glass vase features a simply breathtaking Iris patch in full bloom! Featuring multiple layers of colored glass, this glass has been acid cut back, with hand carved and detailed blossoming Iris plants around the vase. Very fluid design suggesting a steady breeze as the Iris bask in the sun highlighted with the wonderful yellow and orange glass giving an impeccable sunset view as the Iris blossoms triumphantly announcing the day coming to an end. The detail work is stunning, and it's further enhanced with intaglio like reverse cut designs in the glass, giving further depth and almost a 3D affect to the glass, top of the mark work here folks!
Brown, orange, yellow, clear and possibly other Nicolas signature colors make this vase pop in person, with infinite plays on lighting, be it man made or natural.
