With a brilliant gilded patina, this small (1 1/2") ex voto has a magnificent presence. It originate from a small ex voto collection in France and dates towards 1880.
The small ex voto are the most illusive to find in the antique market. They have a special ambiance as they were small enough to hold in a palm or wear on a chain near the heart.
The initials at the center are delicately engraved: smaller "ND" with a large "D" overlaying the double initial. There are palm fronds which flank the left and right of the central initials. The flame is deeply grooved. The back of the flame has a small ring for threading a chain or ribbon. It has a nice side hinge and the door opens and closes nicely. The interior has a magnificently shimmering gilded surface. It measures: 1 1/2" x 1" x 3/8" thick.
It is in very good antique condition: the outer patina is rich and glimmering, there is very slight tarnish at the inside right of the open heart interior.
It is a gorgeous example in a rarely found size.
