Vintage American Longleaf Pine Needle Coil Basket 11" ~ Spectacular! Extra large example of a hand-made pine needle basket. Most likely American from the south east. Pine needle basket making was a tradition beginning with the natives of the Americas, and shared throughout the United States, especially during the 19th & early 20th centuries. This basket most likely dates from the early 1930s-early 1950s. Perhaps it is older, but maybe not. It has beautiful rich coloring from the age of the needles, & very minor wear as shown in the photos. The pine needle scent is detectable when you lean in to smell the basket. This displays well, especially due to the large size. This measures approximately 11 3/4" at it's tallest height x 12" Wide.
