Vintage Anton Zaic Signed and Dated 1947 Leather Covered Wooden Box with Hand Painted Mallard Duck in Flight on Porcelain Tile. Anton Zaic, was a ceramics maker from New York who ran both a business and a school for ceramics work. He was the brother of the legendary Frank Zaic, modeler expert and creator of JASCO. Anton had stored his art work, equipment, papers and magazines many dating back earlier than the 1950's in a barn on the historically famous "Titus Farm" in South Brunswick. Anton and his wife lived in Kendall park just across from Titus Farm. They owned half of the farm and grew an orchard there. In 2007, a fire broke out & destroyed most of his life's work. The ruins of the fire left behind a ledger and some of his tile work, glass work and vases. Anton passed in 2008. This is a Rare Vintage Box by Anton Zaic... The Box is Wooden with a Leather Covering. There is a Porcelain Tile on the top of the box that has a Hand Painted Mallard Duck in Flight, this Tile is signed by Anton Zaic. There is gold gilt outlining the Porcelain Tile on the Leather. The interior of the box has two compartments. The underside of the box has the original labels..."hand painted' & "art in ceramic and wood by Anton Zaic 1947 Broadway, New York 23 New York" . There are spots where the leather has rubbed off, the leather is fragile. This is a rare piece as not many have been offered for sale, and almost all of his collection was destroyed in the Titus fire. Measurements are: 6 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 2".
