An antique Victorian yellow gold filled mesh book chain is paired with a shorter watch chain of the same era and design. It has an attached 14 karat rose gold locket with rounded beveled corners that features both a black and a white onyx stone on either side. Joining the chain and locket gives these Victorian classics a style update!
A wonderful tidbit about this piece - in Victorian times a woman would wear the chain as a necklace during the day and when finished with her reading at night she would use it as a bookmark.
The locket features two rectangular onyx stones, one black with a slender white band at the base and the other is white with a slender brown band at the base. The black and white faced onyx stones each measure 16 mm x 12 mm and the locket measures 24 mm x 19 mm and is 10 mm thick (7/8 inch x 3/4 inch x 4/8 inch depth). The locket is not marked, but tested as 14 karat gold and weighs 6.7 grams. It hangs about 3 1/2 inches from the book chain, including the spring ring.
The 6-7 karat yellow gold filled fancy book chain measures 19 3/4 inches long and is 8 mm wide. There is one small link missing on the chain. It weighs 30.3 grams.
The book chain and watch chain are attached by a large spring ring and the locket is then attached by a swivel clasp.
