This Victorian horseshoe shaped 10 karat rose gold locket has a prong-set deep black banded onyx stone on one side and a prong-set orange banded carnelian stone on the other side. The black and orange colors of the stones form the top layer, while an under layer of white can be seen from the sides.
The rose gold horseshoe has small pin points meant to mimic the nails of the shoe and there is an outline of smaller pinpoints all around the edge as decoration. The substantial bail is hinged and has an incised arrow which points to the rivet.
The locket is not marked but tested as 10 karat gold.
The locket measures 4 cm x 2.3 cm with the bail and is 15 mm deep. The onyx and carnelian stones are 21 mm x 16 mm. It weighs 8.1 grams.
The locket is in great condition with hardly any surface scratches or wear to the stones. At the bottom of the white band of the carnelian stone there is a small chip, as shown. It is not at all noticeable when worn. There are two chips to the stone on the inside of the locket.
