This antique Victorian sterling silver pin has a classical motif, a lyre. This musical instrument is often seen in Greek and Roman art. Here it is placed on the diagonal and nestled in the tree leaves depicted on either side. It is just waiting for someone to come by, pick it up and play a tune.
The pin has an English hallmark on the back as well as the maker's mark "J.O. & Co." The hallmark is for Birmingham and it is from 1892. It also bears the mark for sterling silver and is indeed sterling. It is 4.5 cm x 2 cm and weighs 4 grams.
The face of the pin is not totally flat and the pin stick has a little bend to it. There is also an old repair on the back. You can see these in the photos, but when you wear it they do not show at all. The pin is still a beauty!
