Today I am selling a beautiful Victorian gold and enamel brooch. An elongated oval of bright yellow gold is the base for an intricate scene in iridescent enamel. A bird with red wings and head, and a blue body, is flanked by stylized blue flowers and buds, thin green leaves, and black stems and curling vines. A asymmetrical design and the flowing style shows some Art Nouveau influence. It is not hallmarked but acid tests positive for 14 karat gold. The pin is a little crooked but tight and stays in the C clasp securely.
CONDITION: Excellent for its age. No damage to the enamel and only a few very light scratches on the front. A couple of dents on the edges of the back, especially at the end with the pin hinge (see photo #7). Almost no tarnish to the 14k gold. As stated in the description above, the pin is crooked.
CIRCA: Late Victorian era
MEASUREMENTS: 1 13/16 inches long and almost 7/16 of an inch at its tallest; weighs 3.45 grams
