Today I am selling a fantastic Victorian 14k gold necklace. This festoon necklace is made in the Naturalistic style popular during the mid Victorian era. The main pendant is circular with a raised textured border and an open center decorated with realistic leaves, stems, and vines, completed with two bezel set oval domed garnet cabochons. I'm not sure if the garnets are real or glass, but they all match nicely with a deep red color. On either side of the pendant are two chains attached to oval garnet connectors with gold teardrops dangling below. Two more chains on the other side of the garnet connectors attach to smaller versions of the main pendant, each topped with one garnet cabochon. It is completed with a tongue clasp hidden under yet another oval garnet cab. The clasp is tight and in good working order. There are no hallmarks but all of the metal acid tests positive for 14 karat gold.
CONDITION: Excellent for its age. All of the garnet cabs are bright and intact with no chips or cracks. Minor tarnish and discoloration to the 14k gold, mostly on the borders of the main pendant and two smaller ones. Slight dents on the backs of the garnet connectors.
CIRCA: Mid Victorian era
MEASUREMENTS: total length is about 18 inches long, the main pendant is a little over 1 1/4 inches in diameter, the smaller pendants are a little over 5/8 of an inch in diameter, and the teardrops are 5/8 of an inch long; weight is 18.7 grams
