Today I am selling a lovely German Art Nouveau, or Jugendstil, necklace. A silver medallion features the slightly raised design of a maiden in profile with a water lily in her flowing hair. The hair forms the edge of the roughly round pendant and is overlapped by lily pads and buds. Two silver chains connect to loops at the upper corners. Farther up the chains are connectors that are the same as the pendant, just smaller and connected at the top and bottom to the chains. It closes with a barrel clasp that is decorated around the middle. It is not hallmarked but acid tests positive for silver.
CONDITION: Excellent for its age. Minor general tarnish and discoloration to the sterling silver.
CIRCA: 1890s to 1900s
MEASUREMENTS: total length is about 23 1/4 inches long, the main pendant is almost 1 inch in diameter, and the connectors are 5/8 of an inch in diameter (not including loops)
