Today I am selling a stunning pair of Chinese amethyst earrings. The oval domed flawed amethyst cabochons are bezel set into gilt silver mesh or filigree settings. The sides of the mesh are decorated with enamel butterflies in various shades of blue and purple in between round medallions in light and dark blue. The backs are also filigree with a small oval opening in the center to allow light in to brighten the amethyst cabs. Both clips are tight and in good working order.
CONDITION: Very good for their age. Both amethyst cabs show interior cracks that are natural, and one is lighter colored and less domed than the other. The only damage to the enamel that I see is a chip to the body of one of the butterflies. The gilding on the silver is uniform and has not worn off. One clip was reattached crooked with solder or glue, but is stable.
CIRCA: 1920s to 1930s
