A high quality and unusual Brass and steel Pipe Tomahawk, Plains Indians, Sioux, Late 19th. century.

A remarkable presentation quality Tomahawk with the Pipe head or hammer shaped as an Indian head. Brass pipe tomahawk with dove-tailed steel bit; The original finely patinated haft, hollowed for smoking.

It was originally purchased by the American collector Laurtiz Geber, Texas from the estate auction of colts from the Samuel collection. Reportedly it was made to a Sioux Indian in The Buffalo Bill Wild West show late 19th Century. Third owner was Per Von Shilder a Dane who beholds a significant collection of North American plains Indian art. He purchased it together with a plains club from the classic period in 2007 and the paper with photo and short description, dating it to 1887, follows the sale together with a COA from Egeskov Fine arts.

Size: 51 cm. long and the head, 22 cm. long.

Condition: Superb, a presentation piece, finely preserved with natural brass patina.

Wonderful ca. 1920s mounting - a rose marple base and silvered brass fittings.
