An extremely rare and interesting figural group of the Dying Buddha, Chinese Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) Tomb pottery, dating to the 15th.-16th. century AD.
It's the 2nd. matching set that we have listed at Trocadero - this one in blue colours the other in green and orange.
Here buddha is lying on a very large ornate bed, resting his head on a pillow and has just expired and looks like he is sleeping. Behind him on the bed is three Acolytes tending him in a gender way, while four other Acolytes are standing with twisted faces in mourning. The Monks or Acolytes are clad in simple robes and the whole group is finely glaced in the cobalt and Torquise blue colours, with black and red pigments on details.
Size: The Table is 24-25 cm. wide and 16,2 cm. deep. Each figure is 17-18 cm. tall.
Condition: Superb, completely intact set with fine wear and patina, incl. finely crackled glace in parts. nothing to remark.
