A pair of spectacular antique Buddhist temple standards, Later Qing Dynasty, Tibetan 19th. century.
Each standard is 185-187 cm. high and the combined weight is somewhere around 20-25 kilograms!
They were made in 4 seperate sections, so they can be transported easily.
They are profusely decorated and inscribed with Chinese characters on the lower stem. Each with 4 larger heads of crowned Guardian deities on top, a diamond-shaped middle section decorated with 6-armed Buddha representations and with protruding demons and animals towards the base with is decorated with what looks like sea-animals swimming in the Ocean.
Absolutely wonderful and very unique pieces - an addition to any better collection of Buddhist art.
Ex. Old Danish Collection from the first part of 20th. century
