A pair of exceptional antique, English George III sterling silver sauce tureens, Master John Mewburn, dating 1823.
Superbly crafted as a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval spreading pedestal foot to a collet rim, in the classic English Adam style. The body of each tureen is plain and embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest with a lion, seashells, a large sword and several locks. These impressive sterling silver tureens retain the original hallmarked push fit covers surmounted with Adams style urn shaped finials.
The surface of each cover is ornamented with the aforementioned engraved crest to the body. Each tureen is fitted with two loop handles embellished with a chased decorated design.
These antique sauce tureens were crafted by the silversmith John Mewburn, London 1823, and are of very high quality for the type.
Weight 1160 grams and the length for each vessel is ca. 23 cm. - a pair of substantial silver vessels!
Condition: Exceptional condition for age and type!
