This is a special pristine color lithograph button of Hans Axel Von Ferson as a young man. Marie Antoinette and the count were friends or lovers. They sent private letters to each other throughout her life. When he returned to France from the United States in 1790 she gave him a gift of a small almanac inscribed "Faith, love and Hope, never go back to the United States". He tried to save her when she was imprisoned but she was beheaded and he died a short time later killed in Sweden by an angry mob. It is a three piece button and is 1 2/8". A great addition to a blossoming button collection
