This is a wonderful old temple dragon. His purpose was to keep evil spirits away. He would be sitting on a rafter in the ceiling. You can see how part of him is hollowed out to rest on the beam. They did not paint the top side as that would never be seen. I have put a picture on to give you some idea of what that would have looked like. Unfortunately, my ceiling beams are too wide/thick to show what exactly he would look like from below. Also, the cross beams are too close together to show how his wings would have been seen. His tail does not come out parallel to the body but at a 90 degree angle to the bottom. My beams are too close to the ceiling to have ever allowed me to display him like that so the tail has always been kept separately. In picture #8 you can see how it would have been attached.

The colours are still vivid being paint and gilt. He measures 17 inches in length. The wing span is 17 inches. The tail is 12 inches long.

These are rare to come by. I hope that you will enjoy him as much as I have.

Thank you for looking.
