This is a great piece from a McLoughlin Spelling Slips puzzle box, the cover of which I am also listing. It is ca. 1890 and is in perfect condition. Looking at the close up one can see it is in pieces which the child would put together to aid in spelling. This is from the golden age of board and table games. It is beautifully framed with UVA and UVB glass with a gilt frame. I am also listing the box cover. It measures 12" x 14" since it has been assembled before framing. It is ready to hang.
It is quite lovely. These "Spelling Slips" are part of the Liman Collection at the New York Historical Society.
