Karl Bodmer is best known in America for his drawings and paintings of the American Indians done, on a trip with Emperor Maximillian, in 1833. He also had a great love of animals and did many etchings of these creatures. Here one finds two famous etchings - 'Cat with Snake' and 'Cat Preparing for Battle'. They are usually found individually. The two have been combined on a sheet of handmade laid paper. The image sizes are 3.5" x 5" and the individual plate sizes are 4.75" x 6.25". The overall size of the sheet is 13.625" x 9.75". The indentation marks of the plates are hard to see in my photograph but they are there. The condition is fine. they were originally printed in 1865 with a later printing in 1874. To the best of my knowledge this would be late 1800s.
For cat lovers this is a wonderful piece. I shall be putting many cat pieces on in the future so keep checking.
