Large C. 1870 oil on canvas by Henri De Buel aka Henri De Beul(Belgian 1845-1900). A very detailed scene of sheep in a stone barn, a scene often painted by the artist. Most certainly a major work for the artist. He was a pupil at the school of Dendermonde and the Academy of Brussels. He is the brother of artist Franz De Beul. He lived in Brussels, and exhibited extensively in Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp, and Liege. The National Trust show examples of his work in Brodick Castle in Scotland. He painted many farm animals but primarily sheep and in a realistic mode. His highest selling work recorded at auction was recorded at Christie’s in $10,477 in 2003. The painting is in very good restored condition. It has been professionally cleaned and has only a small old patch on reverse. Signed in the lower right. The painting is in its original gilted frame that has been improved by an added edge, and the frame still retains much of its original gilt. The measurements are 22” x 32”unframed and 29” x 39” framed.
