A large nocturnal scene oil on canvas mounted on masonite by Jesse Santos(Philippines 1928-2013). Signed in lower right and dated “76” for 1976. Painted seven years after Santos moved to the US, and at a time when he was working on western art projects. He became famous for his comic strip characters drawn in pencil and ink. His most famous characters done in 1972 were “Dagar the Invincible” and “Tragg and the Sky Gods”. Throughout his time as a comic strip artist he also painted. After retiring in 1998 he became a singer, producing at least one album of love ballads.
The painting is in excellent condition with no damage or repair. The colors are vibrant and there is fine detail evident in the horses. It is housed in a custom vintage frame of the same era. Measures 18” x 24” unframed and 24” x 29” framed.
