A large American oil on canvas landscape painting by Clinton Loveridge(New York 1838-1915). A prolific painter, Loveridge was mainly known for his cow paintings, usually in a watery landscape. He was born in Troy, NY and died in Brooklyn, NY. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design from 1867 to 1899, and the Brooklyn Art Association from 1857 to 1860. He is is listed in all major art references.
The painting is in very good restored condition. It has been lined and a large tear repaired in the the upper left. For certain one of his largest paintings on record, this one properly exemplifies his talent for painting cows and the surrounding scenery. It is signed in the lower left. The later but old fine giltwood frame is also in very good condition. The painting measures 20” x 30”(unframed) and 27.5” 37.5”(framed).
