Rare set of six large sterling silver forks by reknowned London silversmith Hester Bateman(1709-1794). Referred to as the “Queen of Silversmiths” She was working from 1744 until her retirement in 1790, leaving the business to her sons Peter and Jonathan. She made all sorts of holloware and flatware of the highest quality. Spoons made by her are plentiful but not forks, and these forks all large and in excellent age appropriate condition. Each is properly marked and were made in 1780. The makers mark, in this case the HB in script, is rubbed out on one fork. Each has the same downward turn and bird crest. Each fork is 8”long and they weigh 12 ounces as a group.
