A quart size aqua ground lip hand blown fruit jar embossed "THE MASON JAR OF 1872" on the front with the date on the heel of the jar. The clear lid held in place with a zinc band is embossed" PATENTED SEPTEMBER 24th 1872". The jar was made only in 1873 and 1874 by the Whitney Glass Works of Glassboro, NJ. The jar is in excellent condition with minor chipping as is common around the ground lip. All original jar, lid, and band.
