A tall and very distinctive pair of columnar cluster sterling silver candlesticks,,a popular form made by the Martin Hall & Co. originally based in Sheffield, England, and founded in 1820. However, these candlesticks bear London hallmarks, which was another location added later by Martin and Hall & Co. The date marks are for 1891 so they are about 125 years old. The broadside lion is the Sterling Mark. The initials are "RM" over "EH" in a diamond cartouche which stands for Richard Martin and Ebenezer Hall, respectively. The candlesticks have fine detail and are in excellent condition with only the age related nicks and pings, which are mostly along the base edges. The marks are the same on each candlestick, and though somewhat rubbed from cleaning, are legible. Stationary metal inserts have been added to the candle sockets. The candlesticks are 11" high and the bases are 4.25"square.
