A half gallon size aqua ground lip c.1870 fruit jar embossed "NEW PARAGON 3" with corresponding number 3 on the glass lid. The tin band is cut in three places to engage the lugs on the jar, thus creating a tight seal. The base is unmarked. the patentee was Robert McCully of Philadelphia, PA. Condition wise there is the natural roughness around the ground lip and a small potstone toward the base that occurred in its creation. The jar, lid, and band are in excellent condition. The jar has bold embossing and a great clarity enhanced by whittling. This a beautiful jar. Measures 10"high.
