An 18th or 19th century trundle bed burlap mattress support. Trundle beds were low, small beds kept underneath the larger bed. The rope was used to secure the support to the nodules on the bed rails, hence the term "rope bed".Seldom seen on beds after 1875. Notice the hand stitching and reinforcements around the loop holes The piece is in good condition for its age, is signed and dated possibly 1756 or 1856. Needs cleaning. A couple of loops have been torn out and the rope, while very old, is not likely original. Measures 41" X 66".
