A large sterling silver serving spoon made in London by famed English silversmith Hester Bateman(1709-1794) in 1783. Known as the "Queen of Silversmiths" she began making silverware on her own after her husband's death in 1761. However, her working period was essentially 1774 until her retirement in 1790. This fine serving spoon is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration, only normal usage wear as expected for its age. The hallmarks are clear and complete with "HB" for Hester Bateman in script. Very collectible piece. Measures 11.5"long, weighs about 4 ounces.
