C. 1875 oil on board titled on reverse "The Bridge" by John Dawson Watson(British 1832-1892). An impressionist landscape with fine detail and coloration. In excellent condition, professionally cleaned but no damage or apparent inpaints, signed lower right and on reverse. Watson is known for landscapes and genre. He studied at the Manchester School of Art and later at the Royal Academy in London. He became a member of the Society of Painters in Watercolors in 1864. In addition to painting, Watson was a furniture and theatrical costume designer. Participant in many London exhibitions. Listed in all major references. The gilted frame is modern. The painting measures 12"w X 16"h (sight) and 21.5"w X 24"h (framed).
