An oil on canvas by Carl Seibels(German 1844-1877). A masterful landscape of a young lass surrounded by sheep in excellent overall condition in its original stretcher, unlined, and in a contemporary gilted frame. Seibels was born in Cologne, Germany and died in Naples, Italy. He is listed in major art references, including Benezit's " Dictionnaire Des Peintres Sculpteurs Dessinateurs Et Graveurs, volume 9, page 507. He is represented in several museums in Germany including the National Museum at Düsseldorf and the Folkwang Museum in Essen. Known primarily for landscapes with sheep and cattle, Seibels only lived 33 years. Measurements are 12.5"w X 13.5"h(sight) and 20"w X 21"h(framed).
