A nice half gallon clear fruit jar embossed "CRYSTAL JAR", patented by Daniel Bennett of Baldwin Township, Allegeny County, PA. These jars were made y the Pittsburgh Glass Company in the 1870's and 1880's. This is a fine example with its original glass lid embossed "PATENTED DEC 17 1868". The jar is clear and free from stain or damage. There is some lip roughness that occurred in its creation. The lid is fine except one of the three inner lugs appears to either have broken off or was never fully formed; however, this does not affect the function of the lid. The jars has interesting swirls throughout.
