An impressive c.1815 English lyre form sofa table in mahogany. The table has a magnificent top of figured mahogany veneer over pine and with cross banding flanked by two drop leaf ends that have double bracket supports. There are two deep dovetailed drawers of oak on one side and false drawer fronts on the other side with all having inlaid escutcheons original lion's head loop brass handles and original locks. The two lyre ends are highlighted by three gilt metal rails which rest on a base of carved mahogany knees and down swept legs that terminate original brass paw castors. The sofa table is in excellent overall condition with a fine polished finish, and complete structural soundness and originality. Various small cosmetic professional grade repairs have been made over a long period of time, most of which can be seen on close inspection of the top. The sofa table measures 30.25"high x 36"wide(with leaves down) and 59"wide (with leaves up).
