English sterling silver ribbed pedestal center bowl made in 1889 by Charles Stuart Harris(died in 1897) in London. He inherited the silversmithing business from his father John Robert Harris in 1852 and set up shop at 29 Kirby Street. He and partners not only were silversmiths but dealt in all kinds of precious metals(gold) and stones(diamonds). After his death in 1897 his sons continued the business as C.S. Harris and Sons Ltd. until 1934 when it was absorbed into Freeman and Sons,LTD. The bowl is in excellent condition with only minor scuffs as appropriate for its age. It has full and legible hallmarks near the rim. The ribbing on both the bowl and pedestal is exceptionally well done by hand and the piece has a fine luster. The measures 8.5"wide and 5.5"high.
