Pair of c.1825 period brass andirons by Edward Smylie(1794-1847) who operated a brass foundry in New York from about 1817 to 1840. The signature is on the brass plate of each one. In very good shape except that one stop is loose but no missing parts or structural damage. These andirons are closely related to a pair in Schiffer's THE BRASS BOOK, 1978, pages 82-83. They measure 20.75" tall x 19" deep.
